The Present Scenario of Canadian Immigration

Immigration is considered a valuable tool for Canada to address its labor market shortages and stimulate its economic growth. Every year, the number of immigrants coming to Canada increases. Canada aims to welcome 500,000 Permanent Residents (PR) annually by 2025 under its immigration levels plan for 2023-2025.

The majority of new permanent residents intending to immigrate to Canada will enter through the economic-class immigration programs, including Express Entry.

Express Entry is Canada’s application management system that manages immigration applications under its three immigration pathways, including the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). The FSTP is the primary immigration pathway managed by the federal government.

However, in recent years, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has taken the lead in promoting immigration to Canada. The PNP is a program that enables the participating provinces and territories to invite candidates for provincial immigration who can best help meet the local labor market needs.

Quebec has a separate immigration pathway, as both Quebec and Nunavut do not use PNP for inviting candidates.
