Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in Canada
In Canada, each province and territory other than Quebec and Nunavut employs the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to nominate candidates. Typically, the provinces consider economic immigration candidates who they believe have the potential to fit into the regional market and economy easily.
Provinces frequently conduct draws to attract candidates skilled in specific in-demand human capital attributes. For instance, provinces invite candidates based on their occupation or if they are international students who have completed their graduation in the province.
To be considered for a nomination, candidates must have secured an Expression of Interest (EOI) issued by the province they applied to or were chosen, as is occasionally the case for the Express Entry candidates. After this, candidates can apply for a nomination from the province.
Notably, Candidates who are nominated by a province will have a significantly stronger application when they apply to IRCC for Canada’s PR status.
The majority of provinces take into account the candidate’s minimum score when issuing EOI to them. This implies candidates are allotted scores based on different human capital factors, similar to the Express Entry system.
However, it’s notable that the scores under PNP are calculated by employing a provincial scoring system rather than the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
