In a recent Express Entry invitation round, IRCC invited 2095 Candidates in the General draw. This was the third Express Entry draw of this month. The cut-off score for this draw was 529 candidates needed to be eligible for this draw.

IRCC invited 2095 Candidates in the Recent General Draw: The Other Two Draws of This Month

Besides this latest Express Entry draw, IRCC held two more draws this month. The draws occurred on April 10 and 11.

The draw on April 10 was also a general draw that invited candidates from all three Express Entry managed programs.

In this draw, IRCC invited 1,280 candidates who had a minimum CRS score of 549. Notably, this CRS score was the highest cut-off score for any express entry draw as of now in 2024. Also, this draw’s CRS score showed a sharp rise from a previous March 25 general draw’s CRS score requirement of 524.

The other Express Entry Draw on April 11 was the first Express Entry STEM category draw of this year. In this draw, around 4500 candidates with a minimum CRS of 491 received invitations to apply.

Category-Based Selection in Canada

Canada launched category-based selections in May last year under the Express Entry system. These draws were introduced to help IRCC invite Express Entry candidates skilled in in-demand human capital attributes. For instance, candidates are chosen based on their language ability or occupation under category-based selections.

The 2023 categories were selected after consultations with IRCC partners and stakeholders. IRCC announced this year that it would continue with the previously selected categories throughout the year. The following are the continued category-based draws categories:

  • Healthcare sector
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades occupations, like plumbers, carpenters, and contractors
  • Transport occupations
  • Agriculture and agri-food sector
  • Strong French proficiency

Candidates selected under occupation-based categories must have at least six months of continuous full-time work experience in an eligible occupation within the last 3 years. Moreover, candidates selected under the French proficiency category must have passed the French language test with a result of a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens.

Express Entry System in Canada

In Canada, Express Entry is an application management procedure for three popular immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), to invite candidates.

Candidates eligible for any of these three programs must upload a profile to the IRCC website. After that, they are assigned scores based on different human capital factors like education, work experience, age, language ability, and occupation.

Then, a final CRS score is calculated and assigned to the candidate using these scores.

Candidates with the highest CRS scores have more chances to obtain an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.

After acquiring an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit their final application to IRCC. The department usually processes the PR application within six months.

Express Entry is Canada’s popular immigration pathway, allowing interested candidates to move and settle in Canada effectively.
