IRCC invites applicants in the first Express Entry draw of 2025. The department issued 471 to applicants with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 793.

The recent draw is the first Express Entry selection of the year and follows two PNP draws and a French language proficiency draw in December. Last month, the immigration department issued a total of 2,561 ITAs to applicants.

Moreover, IRCC largely held to the pattern of inviting applicants in the Canadian Experience Class program, Provincial Nominee Program applicants, and French-language category applicants in 2024. The immigration department emphasized these three selections more than others, and are expected to continue to do so in 2025.

Furthermore, applicants with French-language proficiency, along with applicants who have professional experience in healthcare and trades professions, form IRCC’s ‘Federal Economic Priorities’ category under Express Entry, as detailed in the recent Immigration Levels Plan.

Meanwhile, applicants under the CEC and PNP form the ‘In-Canada Focus’ category. These two categories will occupy the grand majority of IRCC’s admissions allocation under Express Entry, at least for the coming year.

What Is Express Entry?

IRCC invites applicants in the first Express Entry draw of 2025. Well, Express Entry is an application management system that oversees three federal economic immigration programs:

  • The Canadian Experience Class
  • The Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program

Together, these programs form the largest economic immigration pathway to Canada.

Moreover, newcomers should submit an applicant profile to the Express Entry pool, where they will obtain the rank according to the CRS. Also, every eligible applicant obtains a CRS score based on human capital factors like age, education, work experience, etc.

Applicants with the highest CRS score are routinely invited to apply for Canadian PR via the issuance of ITAs. In addition, if an applicant obtains an ITA, they will have 60 days from the day they obtained the invitation to submit a complete application for PR to IRCC.

Moreover, if an application is complete and meets all requirements, IRCC will aim to process it within six months. Applicants who complete this process successfully are given Canadian PR and might live, work, and settle in Canada permanently. They can even build eligibility to apply for Canadian citizenship.
