North Bay releases priority sectors and professions for RCIP. The RCIP is a pathway to permanent residency for workers with employment offers from designated employers in participating rural communities in Canada. 

Priority Sectors 

Each participating community has been allowed to choose five years under which professions can be eligible for RCIP. 

North Bay will be focusing on the following sectors: 

• Health
• Business, Finances, & Administration
• Sales and Service
• Trades and Transport
• Education, Law and Social, Community and Government Services 

North Bay is a city in Northern Ontario. The region covered by the North Bay RCIP includes the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts, along with the town of Latchford. 

Priority Professions

North Bay releases priority sectors and professions for RCIP. Below is the list of North Bay’s eligible professions, with the corresponding Classification codes: 

The list of eligible occupations included in the RCIP will be reassessed at the end of each year.

Why Are Priority Sectors And Professions Significant For The RCIP? 

The RCIP is an employer-driven pathway that implies that foreign workers need a job offer to be eligible to apply for permanent residence.   

This job offer needs to come from a designated employer – one that is approved by an economic development organization in a participating community. 

Only employers in the identified priority sectors are eligible for designation. Once designated, these employers can offer jobs to foreign workers, making them eligible to apply for PR through the pilot. 

Similarly, the NOC code associated with the job offer must be approved under the North Bay RCIP for the foreign national to be eligible. 

As of the time of publication, the following communities have revealed their priority sectors: 

• Brandon 
• Timmins
• Thunder Bay
• Sault Ste. Marie 
• North Okanagan – Shuswap 

There are 14 communities participating in the pilot in total, with many others set to release their priority sectors in the near future. 

Workers Eligible Through The RCIP 

Apart from having a qualifying job offer from a designated employer in the community, foreign nationals need to meet other criteria: 

• Have at least 1 year (1,560 hours) of related work experience in the past three years or meet the criteria for the international graduate exemption
• Meet language proficiency requirements
• Have a Canadian educational credential or the foreign equivalent
• Have enough money to support the transition for themselves and their family to the community
