Alberta Extends More ITAs to Provincial Immigration Candidates
Alberta extends more ITAs to provincial immigration candidates through four specialized immigration streams.
The invitations targeted individuals with work experience in key sectors where Alberta faces critical labor shortages, helping support economic growth in the province.
Between April 11 and April 22, Alberta issued a total of 165 invitations across different streams under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).
Overview of Alberta’s AAIP Draws (April 11 – April 22)
Alberta extends more ITAs to provincial immigration candidates. Between April 11 and April 22, the AAIP held four separate draws, issuing invitations across various targeted pathways. Draw sizes and the minimum required scores varied for each stream, as outlined below:
Draw Date | Worker Stream / Pathway | Minimum Score of Invited Candidates | Number of Invitations Issued |
22 April, 2025 | Alberta Express Entry Stream – Accelerated Tech Pathway | 71 | 22 |
17 April, 2025 | Alberta Express Entry Stream – Law Enforcement Pathway | 49 | 2 |
15 April, 2025 | Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 73 | 33 |
11 April, 2025 | Alberta Opportunity Stream | 77 | 108 |
Of particular interest in this round of draws is the first Tourism and Hospitality Stream selection in 2025, as well as only the second rounds conducted under the Accelerated Tech and Law Enforcement Pathways this year.
The April 11 draw was also notable as one of the first general draws under the Alberta Opportunity Stream for 2025, following earlier draws that focused mainly on aviation and construction occupations.
The AAIP website offers detailed, updated information on each immigration stream. This includes the number of nomination spaces still available, the volume of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) currently in the pool, and the applications awaiting processing. Here’s a summary as of the latest update:
Stream / Pathway | Nomination Spaces Remaining (2025) | Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in Selection Pool | Applications to be Processed |
Alberta Opportunity Stream | 1,529 | 35,479 | 1,501 |
Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 182 | 5,508 | 321 |
Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway | 89 | 3,007 | 81 |
Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement Pathway | Not applicable (2025 total allocation is 20 nominations) | 97 | >10 |
Understanding ITAs and Nominations Under AAIP
It is important to distinguish between invitations and nominations within Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) like the AAIP.
Typically, foreign nationals first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to express their desire to immigrate under a provincial program. When selected, they receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a provincial nomination.
Once a candidate receives an ITA, they must submit a full application to the province. If the province approves the application, the candidate is officially nominated.
A provincial nomination either leads directly to a PR application with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through base PNP streams, or — in the case of enhanced streams linked to Express Entry — awards the candidate an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.
This significant boost all but guarantees an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in an upcoming federal Express Entry draw.
