The department of IRCC has conducted the latest Express Entry draw of 2023 and issued invitations to more candidates.

French-speaking category-based draw

In the most recent draw, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited a total of 800 Express Entry candidates on August 2, 2023, in a targeted draw. The Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued to candidates with French-speaking abilities under the new category-based selection draws.

Candidates with a minimum CRS score of 435 received invitations from the department.

The Express Entry program: What is it?

Express Entry is a system that is used by IRCC to manage immigration applications online. The system governs three immigration programs that help skilled workers to immigrate to Canada and help the country address the labor shortages, and promote the French language throughout the country. The programs are:

  1. FSWP: Federal Skilled Worker Program,
  1. CEC: Canadian Experience Class, and
  1. FSTP: Federal Skilled Trades Program.

Various factors are assessed to evaluate the eligibility of candidates in the EE pool and are provided with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, including their:

  • Age
  • Education
  • Language abilities
  • Occupation:
  • Work Experience, and more.

Applicants with the highest scores have more possibility of receiving an ITA.

IRCC launched the new category-based draw with six new categories at the end of May, which takes into account the specific attributes, lowering its dependency on high CRS scores.

The six new categories for Express Entry category-based selections are:

  1. Healthcare
  1. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  1. Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  1. Transport
  1. Agriculture and agri-food
  1. Strong French-language proficiency
