On July 15, 2023, the government of Canada declared that it is planning to launch a new PR pathway for Ukrainians this October, which will allow Ukrainians living in Canada to apply for Canadian PR (permanent residence).

According to the government, the new pathway will become accessible on October 23, 2023. Ukrainians who are living in Canada as temporary residents and who have at least one family member in Canada will be able to apply for PR via the new pathway.

According to the IRCC ( Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), the department will release additional details concerning the launch of this new PR pathway for Ukrainians in October.

In addition, IRCC stated that candidates who will be eligible for the new pathway for PR include Ukrainian spouses, common-law partners, siblings, children, parents, grandparents, or grandchildren of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Ukrainians who have a CUAET or Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel visa will be able to enter Canada under the temporary special measures provided by the Canadian government until March 31, 2024.

On July 15, the government of Canada ceased to accept new applications under the CUAET. However, Ukrainians, as well as their family members, are still allowed to apply for a TRV or Temporary Resident Visa to travel to Canada.

Ukrainians and their family members will be eligible to extend their stay in Canada for a maximum of three years once they visit Canada on a TRV. They can do this via a study permit or open work permit, which IRCC will prioritize. In addition to this, Ukrainians can also take advantage of the settlement programs such as employment support and language training.

Since the launch of CUAET in March 2022, the program has made it possible for more than 166,000 Ukrainians to relocate to Canada.
