In fact, by the age of 25, this group of newcomers reported better earnings than all Canadian taxpayers. Understand the educational and work success of immigrant children in Canada, as per a recent study.
The sooner the arrival of children to Canada, the better the outcomes
According to the Longitudinal Immigrant Database data, there is a positive relationship between how soon immigrant children arrive in Canada and their likelihood of pursuing post-secondary education.
The Longitudinal Immigrant Database is a massive data model that records long-term immigrant data of those who arrive in Canada.
For instance, 77.3% of immigrants who arrived in Canada at age 4 enroll in post-secondary education by age 20. Notably, this study was consistent for the immigrant children who arrived in Canada between the ages of 5 and 9. For this age group, 69.9% enrolled in post-secondary education.
Moreover, around 61.3% of immigrant children between the ages of 10 and 14 were enrolled in post-secondary education.
In contrast, only 59.9% of all Canadian taxpayers were enrolled in post-secondary education by age 20. This implies that this child immigrant group had much higher rates of post-secondary education involvement than all Canadians.
This result was also supported by the economic results of the immigrants based on their age at entry to Canada. In particular, immigrant taxpayers accepted to Canada earned more than the average of all Canadian taxpayers in their age group.
Interestingly, this result was delayed due to the age of the taxpayers. For example, immigrants admitted to Canada as children had slightly lower median salaries as compared to all other Canadian taxpayers between the ages of 18 and 24.
However, the median salaries of this immigrant group after the age of 25 equaled or surpassed the median salaries of all Canadian taxpayers in the same age group.
Notably, by age 30, immigrants admitted to Canada as children had a median salary 17.6% higher than all other Canadian taxpayers in the same age group.
Understanding Educational and Work Success Of Immigrant Children in Canada: What Do the Above Findings Suggest?
Study results show that immigrants who arrive in Canada at an early age are positively impacted by both participation in higher education and labor market outcomes. The benefits are stronger for those who immigrated at a younger age.
According to the study, immigrants admitted to Canada early had better outcomes than not only those who entered later but also the Canadian population as a whole. The study did not reveal any reason for this, and further studies might be needed to find the reasons.
The study further indicated a positive relationship between the immigrant youth at the time of their entry to Canada and successful economic results. This is seen in all in the short term, in the medium term as well as in the long term.
Notably, other studies indicated a positive correlation between the early arrival of immigrants to Canada and the rise in their earnings over time.
This is also demonstrated in the weightage that the age factor receives in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This means that in the CRS scoring system, younger immigrants are given an advantage because of their young age.
So, this was about a study findings about the educational and work success of immigrant children in Canada.
