Prior to this, foreign students were only permitted to work during programs lasting six months or fewer. If they wanted to enroll in a longer program, they would have to apply for a different study visa. For foreign workers who desire to advance their education and skills, this has been a hurdle. This is especially true for those who must use particular programs to verify their international credentials.

The new interim measure has a three-year term. The program’s duration is not constrained in any way. Additionally, full-time or part-time enrollment in classes is permitted for international workers with proper work permits.

Starting from June 27, 2023, individuals with a valid work permit or those waiting for an extension will be affected by the temporary measure. Nonetheless, if foreign workers desire to pursue further education once their work permit expires, they must submit an application for a study permit.

As a consequence of this policy, foreign citizens will have an expanded range of job opportunities. Moreover, by enhancing their Comprehensive Ranking Score, they will increase their chances of obtaining permanent residency. This can be achieved by furthering their education or acquiring relevant professional experience, as it will positively impact their score.
