Express Entry: A Quick Brief.
Express Entry is a popular immigration pathway managed by the Canadian government, enabling potential candidates to move and settle in Canada.
It’s a point-based system that manages applications of candidates who can contribute to Canada’s economy. The following three popular pathways fall under the Express Entry System:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)- This pathway is for skilled workers with foreign work experience.
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)- This pathway is for skilled workers with work experience in skilled professions.
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)- This pathway is for skilled workers with Canadian work experience.
Programs under Express Entry assess candidates using the Comprehensive Ranking System, which uses various factors, including age, work experience, qualification, profession, language ability, and more. These factors have a specified point value, and candidates are assigned an overall CRS score based on these attributes.
To obtain an invitation to apply (ITA) through Express Entry in the upcoming draw, Candidates have to obtain a high Comprehensive Ranking System score (CRS score).
The qualification requirements for each Express Entry pathway differ from one another. For example, For both FSWP and FSTP, the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark requirement is different. Also, both FSWP and FSTP require a candidate to have minimum settlement funds, but not under CEC.
New Express Entry Category-based Draws.
New category-based draws were launched by IRCC this year in May under Express Entry. These categories consider specific attributes of the candidates instead of focusing on their CRS scores.
These draws were anticipated this year as, in 2022, the government revised the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Following those modifications, the Canadian Immigration minister gained the authority to choose potential Express Entry candidates who can help the country elevate the economy as well as encourage the French language in areas other than Quebec.
IRCC selected the six new categories for the new draw under EE, among which five are occupation-based and one is non-occupational.
The following are the six new Express Entry categories:
- Healthcare;
- Transport;
- STEM professions;
- Trades;
- Agriculture and agri-food and
- French Language Proficiency
Since the launch of the new category-based draws, the department of IRCC has held draws for each one of these categories, excluding the Agriculture and agri-food categories. Until now, French language proficiency is the category under which IRCC issued the highest number of ITAs (6,900) in category-based draws.
It’s notable that candidates must be in the Express Entry pool and have scored above the cut-off in order to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) and immigrate to Canada.
