What Is Express Entry?
IRCC issues 4000 ITAs to CEC applicants in the latest Express Entry draw. Well, Express Entry is an application management system that was launched in 2015. It oversees three of Canada’s most prominent economic immigration programs, i.e., Federal Skilled Trades Program, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
These programs all use the Comprehensive Ranking System to assign a point value to several in-demand human capital attributes, such as language ability, education, age, work experience, and profession. Applicants might also get points for having a sibling in Canada, immigrating with a spouse or partner, or having a high Canadian Language Benchmark score in both English and French.
Taken together, the score for these factors adds up to an applicant’s overall score. Those who have the highest scores will obtain an ITA in an upcoming Express Entry draw.
Last year, IRCC also introduced category-based selection draws for Express Entry applicants. It included specific attributes like their language ability or work experience. Six categories were there, including:
- Healthcare
- STEM Professions
- Trades
- Transport
- French Language Proficiency
IRCC states that these categories were chosen after consulting with multiple stakeholders and reflect the nation’s need to fill gaps in high-demand sectors of the workforce, along with demographic targets.
For instance, French language proficiency was there to help the department meet its target for newcomers settling outside of Quebec in French-minority communities.
Once an applicant obtains their ITA, they have 60 days to submit their final application to IRCC. In addition, the department has a service standard of six months for processing a finalized Express Entry application.
