IRCC issues 911 ITAs in the latest Express Entry draw for PNP applicants. The minimum score required was 732 to be considered.

The recent draw is the first of the month & follows a busy summer. Throughout July & August, IRCC invited applicants in 14 separate Express Entry draws. July broke the record for the highest number of draws in a month. There were nine draws between July 2 & 31.

Another recent Express Entry draw took place on August 27. Moreover, invitations were issued to over 3,330 applicants in a draw that considered applicants in the Canadian Experience Class program.

IRCC has recently adopted a pattern of multiple draws every other week. They generally include a minimum of one draw for Provincial Nominee Program applicants. This is in line with IRCC’s previously declared intention to hold more ‘domestic’ draws to ensure that temporary residents in Canada have increased opportunities to become permanent residents & to reduce the volume of temporary residents entering Canada.

What Is Express Entry?

IRCC issues 911 ITAs in the latest Express Entry draw. Well, Express Entry is an application management system that was introduced by the IRCC in 2015 to help the department select economic immigration applicants with in-demand human capital attributes. In addition, it oversees three economic immigration programs, i.e., the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, & the Canadian Experience Class.

The Comprehensive Ranking System is its cornerstone. It assigns applicants a point score based on several attributes, such as language ability, work experience, profession, age, and education.

Taken together, these points make up an applicant’s overall score. Also, those with the highest scores are the most likely to obtain an ITA.

Applicants in these programs can also apply for streams of the Provincial Nominee Program that are aligned with Express Entry, a process known as enhanced nomination. Express Entry applicants nominated through a PNP automatically obtain an additional 600 CRS points, thus making it extremely likely that they will obtain an ITA in the forthcoming Express Entry draw, depending on the type of the draw.

In addition, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws in 2023 to allow the department to target applicants with more specific in-demand attributes, mostly based around work experience.

In addition, applicants who obtain ITAs in one of these draws are not required to be in any specific Express Entry program. Moreover, the minimum CRS required is generally lower than it would be for a program-specific or general draw.

The six categories are:

  • Healthcare
  • STEM Professions
  • Trade
  • Agriculture & Agri-Food
  • Transport
  • French-Language Proficiency

IRCC reviews these categories every year & states that as labor market priorities & demographic demand shift, the categories might change in coming years.
