Recent Express Entry Draw Result: 1,040 ITAs Sent.
IRCC released the recent Express Entry draw result, where 1,040 candidates were invited. This was the second draw of this year, held on January 23.
The first draw of 2024 occurred on January 10, in which IRCC invited 1,520 candidates. The draw was also general, targeting candidates from all three Express Entry managed programs, including CEC, FSWP, and FSTP. To be eligible to receive an ITA in that draw, candidates needed a 546 CRS score.
Overview of 2023 Express Entry Draws.
The recent draws followed the December draw, a busy month. IRCC held seven Express Entry draws across the month.
Among these, two were all-program draws, and five were category-based draws. These five draws invited candidates with either French language proficiency or work experience in transport, STEM, trades, agriculture, and agri-food occupations.
There were 42 Express Entry draws in 2023. Among them, the highest number of draws (19) were all-program or general draws.
IRCC also held 17 category-based section draws in 2023 between June and December. In addition, five draws were held exclusively for Express Entry candidates nominated under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). One Express Entry draw was exclusive to Federal Skilled Worker candidates.
How will Express Entry look in 2024?
It’s uncertain to forecast how Express Entry will be in 2024. This is because IRCC has shifted from a regular frequency of draws, making it impossible to foresee the draw types in 2024.
However, as per Canada’s latest Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, IRCC has set a target to accept around 110,770 new permanent residents in 2024. Also, to attain its objective of 117,500 PR admissions, it has to issue sufficient Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
Notably, the majority of ITAs among these will be sent this year as IRCC has a six-month service standard to review and process each Express Entry application.

Canada’s Express Entry System: What is it?
Canada started the Express Entry application management system in 2015 to oversee a candidate’s application from three economic programs. Express Entry aims to fast-track the processing of applications. The programs include:
FSWP- The Federal Skilled Worker Program,
CEC- The Canadian Experience Class and
FSTP- The Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Express Entry has a CRS called Comprehensive Ranking System that gives scores to candidates based on different human capital attributes like work experience, age, education, language ability, occupation, and more. Candidates who secure the highest score have a chance to acquire an ITA for Canadian permanent residency.
Express Entry underwent a major change in May 2023 as IRCC introduced category-based selection rounds of invitations under it. To be eligible for these draws, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria of any one of six new categories under the Category-based selection draws. The six categories include:
- Professions in the Healthcare sector
- Occupations in Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) sectors.
- Trades occupations (i.e., carpenters, plumbers, and contractors)
- occupations in the Transport sector
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
- Strong French proficiency
To be eligible for these draws, candidates must be in the Express Entry application pool under any of the three managed programs of Express Entry.
If an Express Entry candidate acquires a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program, they can gain an additional 600 CRS points. This almost ensures that they will obtain an ITA in the future draw.
Candidates have a period of 60 days after receiving an ITA to submit their final permanent residency application to the IRCC department. Finally, if IRCC approves the candidates’ application, they’ll send a confirmation letter, permitting them to settle in Canada permanently.
