IRCC will process more permits for Palestinian families in Gaza per the temporary special measures. In 2023, IRCC declared that it would process at least a thousand applications for Temporary Resident Visa applicants residing in Gaza and those with family ties with Canadian citizens or PR holders. On May 27, Marc Miller officially stated that the immigration department would expand the processing of applications to 5,000.

Furthermore, he stated that in the previous two weeks, IRCC has been issuing a rising number of web codes for customers looking forward to TRV applications. He even understood that moving out of Gaza is not a solution as of now and the situation might alter at any point. He even pointed out that with the rise in the restriction levels, they will help more number of individuals once the situation gets better. The main objective will be to bring families together.

IRCC is offering local authorities the names of people who have cleared the preliminary screening to exit from Gaza safely.

IRCC will process more permits for Palestinian families in Gaza – Who will qualify for this?

According to the latest reports, applicants must fulfill the criteria of one of the two groups to be acknowledged for TRV:

Group 1 people must do the following:

  • Hold a travel document or passport issued by the Palestine Authority.
  • Be a part of the Gaza Strip on the day of their application submission.
  • Possess an eligible anchor.
  • Must be related to the anchor as a:
  • Spouse or common-law partner
  • Child (of any age)
  • Parent
  • Grandparent
  • Grandchild
  • Siblings (Including Half-Siblings and Adopted Siblings)
  • Must not hold inadmissibility to Canada apart from financial reasons.

There is Group 2 for family members of those under the Group 1 criteria. According to IRCC, the definition of family members includes:

  • A spouse or common-law partner
  • A dependent child such as (yours, spouse’s or common-law partner’s)
  • A dependent child’s dependent child

Lastly, eligible anchors must fulfill the following parameters, and they must be:

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residence holders.
  • 18 years old or above.
  • Associated with the individual under the Group category.
  • Residing or planning to reside in Canada.
  • Having a stronger determination to assist applicants and family members for a year to support them in settling and integrating into Canada.

IRCC observed that a few applicants might need a medical examination if they have resided in any of the designated countries or territories for six months consecutively or longer in a year before entering Canada. They will be able to complete the examination after departing from Gaza.

Process to apply

Qualifying applicants must proceed with the submission of a statutory declaration and consent form to provide their personal details.

After completing this stage, applicants will need to submit a web crisis form for Group 1 applicants and their family members. Individuals who are included in the list of statutory declaration forms will obtain a unique web reference code.

In addition, IRCC suggests that once applicants receive this code, they expedite their submission of the TRV application. Also, these codes don’t guarantee a space.
