Your Next Steps if You Don’t Receive ITA in Express Entry Draw
Receiving an invitation to apply or ITA in an Express Entry Draw is a significant step for applying for Canadian permanent residence (PR). Several individuals receive ITAs in an Express Entry draw. However, numerous individuals do not receive an ITA due to their ineligibility. Also, many people’s Express Entry profile expires before getting an ITA. Explore the next steps if you don’t receive an ITA in the Express Entry draw and find answers to your significant queries.
Notably, there are over 200,000 Express Entry profiles in the pool as of April 2024.
Will My Express Entry Profile Data Be Saved After It Expires?
Generally, an individual’s information is not kept after the expiry of an Express Entry profile. This means that the system will not save your profile data.
Notably, an individual’s Express Entry profile has a validity period of one year. You can check this validity date on the individual’s profile page.
IRCC stated that it previously had the plan to save the candidate’s information but discovered that this was not an option at that time. This might change in the future, but presently when an Express Entry profile expires, a candidate’s information will be lost.
Thus, IRCC suggests that if you find that your Express Entry profile is expiring, you should create a new profile if you wish to stay in the pool. Candidates are also suggested to save their profile information as extra copies or screenshots for ease of re-entry.
Steps if You Don’t Receive ITA in Express Entry Draw
In this section, find the next steps to follow if you don’t receive an ITA in an Express Entry draw.
How to make a New Express Entry profile within the candidate pool?
There’s a simple and easy process that you can follow to create a new Express Entry profile within the system. Generally, it is similar to creating an initial profile within the pool if some guidelines are met.
In particular, a candidate cannot have multiple Express Entry profiles within the candidate pool.
So, if a candidate’s old profile is expiring, and they desire to stay in the pool, they must first withdraw it before creating a new one.
Steps to remove a profile from the Express Entry pool
According to the IRCC, you can use the following process to remove your profile from the Express Entry pool.
- Sign in to your account;
- Go to the “View the applications submitted” option on the main page;
- Click the “Withdraw profile” link and
- Click the “Continue” option below the “Warning!” text underneath the heading “What would you like to do today?”
- Submit the new profile
After submitting a profile, you will obtain a new Express Entry profile number as well as a new job seeker validation code for the Job Bank.
This validation code is assigned to Express Entry profiles so pool candidates may apply for jobs on Canada’s central Job Bank. Also, this will confirm their inclusion within the Express Entry system.
How can you enhance your eligibility while staying in the Express Entry pool?
For candidates in the Express Entry pool, improving eligibility can be a great chance of receiving an ITA from IRCC.
In the Express Entry pool, all candidates are assessed according to a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
The system assigns scores to candidates depending on several human capital factors like age, job experience, education, etc.
As Express Entry revolves around the cut-off CRS score, increasing the eligibility or score under the system can effectively increase the chances of receiving an invitation under a draw.
For this, candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps:
- Increase official language ability in English or French;
- Raise education level by taking an additional credential or evaluating an additional foreign credential;
- Obtain a job offer;
- Obtain a provincial nomination;
- Raise eligible work experience and
- Improve eligibility to avail of spousal points.
Moreover, besides raising the CRS score, candidates may also be eligible or improve their eligibility for Express Entry category-based selection draws. These draws were introduced in May 2023, through which candidates are invited based on their language ability or experience in in-demand sectors.
So, if you don’t receive an ITA in Express Entry Draw, you can follow the steps to improve your eligibility or create a new profile if it’s expiring.
