Yukon Introduces Application Intakes For Yukon Nominee Program
Yukon introduces application intakes for Yukon Nominee Program in 2025. Under this new intake-based approach, YNP will accept a fixed number of applications in each intake.
Once the cap has been hit for a given intake, the YNP will cease to accept applications until the following intake.
On January 29, the YNP will open with its first intake for 2025. This intake will accept a maximum of 125 applications for nomination to the YNP.
In addition, the YNP anticipates holding future intakes quarterly but has not set a fixed schedule for the intakes.
The YNP intends to adjust the size and frequency of its intakes based on the allocation of nominations it obtains from the Canadian federal government. Yukon has requested an increase in allocations for nominations in 2025.
Rationale For Change
Yukon introduces application intakes for Yukon Nominee Program in 2025. Prior to this change, the YNP did not have set intake periods or caps for a series of intakes. Instead, the YNP would accept applications for nominations throughout the year.
In 2024, applications to the YNP increased significantly, far exceeding the territory’s allocation for nominations.
In response to the increase in applications in 2024, the YNP temporarily ceased accepting applications from employers in Whitehorse, the territory’s capital and largest city.
The government of Yukon expects that the new intake process for 2025 will allow it to obtain applications throughout the year.
About The Yukon Nominee Program
The Yukon Nominee Program is Yukon’s flagship program for issuing territorial nominations, which allow foreign nationals to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
The YNP is an employer-led program focused on filling labor market needs. To apply for a territorial nomination under the YNP, a foreign national and their employer should complete the application together.
If the application is successful, the foreign national will obtain a nomination from Yukon, which can allow them to apply to the Canadian federal government for permanent residence.
